Foreword to T.Karlsson's Qabalah, Qliphoth and Goetic Magic
      By David Beth, 2010

The following text is the original english version of the foreword David Beth has written to the portugese edition of Thomas Karlsson´s book "Qabalah, Qliphoth and Goetic Magic" ("Qabalah, Qliphoth e Magia Goética", Coph Nia Publishing, 2010):

The esoteric book market, especially since self publication is made easy, is being flooded with works on the Qabalah, on Goetic magic and on ´dark´ paths of occultism. Very few of those offerings show any kind of quality or depth and most often such books are inconsistent ramblings of shallow minds. Apart from the classics, there come to mind only very few young, modern magicians engaging these fascinating topics with authority and innovation. Thomas Karlsson is such an author. Not only does he have the intellectual and academic background to conduct intensive and comprehensive research on the area he is writing on, he also brings with him more than a decade of intense occult practice. The result is ¨Qabalah, Qliphoth and Goetic Magic¨.

When I was asked to write the foreword to the portugese edition of this book, I contemplated whether to approach the topic from a historical or occult perspective. I decided that it was from the perspective of the practicing magician with which this foreword should be written as this is the area in which Karlsson really shines. The so called dark path and world of the Qliphoth, of demonic entities is a very familiar one to me as an initiate of Voudon Gnosis and through the pagan Daemonology of Kosmic Gnosis.

In his book Karlsson masterfully guides us into the demonic labyrinth of qliphotic paths and shells. We enter the shadow world of the Sithra Ahra, the other people who pay tribute to the Gnostic Deus Alienus, the alien, other god, opposed to Jahwe and his message of submission and suffering. It is this metaphysical race to which belongs the lycantrophic cult of the Voltigeurs, Leapers, of Esoteric Voudon who have made the Tree of Death their hunting ground. The aims of the Sitha Ahra become clear through the words of Michael Bertiaux in the Voudon Gnostic Workbook:

¨In opposition to all humanistic culture, we are lured ever to the brink of chaos. We want to go where we are forbidden. We want to know what has been denied to us. We seek, in a word, the ‘more’.¨

The exploration of the nightside tree is closely associated with the path of the soul which is the path of ecstasy. Opposed to the spirit-ual path of self-denial and escapismas expressed by the sephirothic ascend presided over by Jahwe as a representative for all, especially abrahamic, orthodox monotheisms, the dark path represents the cult of the kosmic resurrection. The daemonic powers of the soul coupled with tools of sexual magic and esoteric ecstasy allow us to engage in a transformation which leads to a kosmic symbiosis with the powers of the World-All while at the same time retaining a Luciferian separation which allows us to become world creators. To the adept of the Left Hand Path in its Eastern or Western expression, the existence of bliss is useless unless it can be relished. He would never desire to lose his individuality through extinction within bliss but aims to relish the nectar of supreme bliss. If there is no relishment of it in the state of emancipation, any approach into this direction would be futile and any effort worthless. At the summit of attainment on the dark path we find ourselves in symbiotic contact with the divine, or Brahma, Paramatma and Bhagavan while at the same time keeping our individuality. In the terms of Sufism we become the lover and the beloved, we simultaneously are loving and being loved. This mystery is reflected in the Qlipha Thaumiel which represents the intellectually incomprehensible principle of duality in non-duality through its twin gods Satan and Moloch.

While this path may seem tempting to many, it must be said that it is also a very dangerous route to take. Very few people have the capabilities to embark on this dark journey and it has not randomly been clouded in warnings. We must make sure that when we speak of the dark doctrine and initiation that we do not create a phantom vision of shallow projection and esoteric role playing. Those who truly undergo the transmutations of the Qliphoth are being faced with overwhelming energies and experiences. They can only be mastered if the initiate is well prepared and deeply knowledgeable about the tools which will help him to overcome the obstacles in his way. Apart from a fundamental understanding of the laws of magic and metaphysics applicable to all paths, an initiate of the dark doctrine must receive a thorough education in metaphysical sexual magic of a very complex type in order to access and maneuver all areas of the backside Tree and demonic realms. Only then will he be able to become a complete magical machine able to extract power from and operate within fields of energy inaccessible to most occultists.

Provided he is successful, four basic modes of operation will be at his disposal:

1. Magical operations of a sephirotic type powered by energies from the frontside of the Tree
2. Magical operations of a sephirotic type powered by energies from the backside of the tree
3. Magical operations of a qliphotic type powered by energies from the frontside of the tree
4. Magical operations of a qliphotic type powered by energies from the backside of the tree

Operations 3 and 4 demand a magical base of operations on the backside of the tree as possessed by the cult of Voltigeurs and Shadow Power Shamans.

The adept needs to understand that no stage or level on the Qliphotic path is higher than another in the materialistic sense of the word. Each ´degree´ or stage on the path is an integral part of the Genius of Legbha-Ghuedhe and thus uniquely important to the whole. However, it is only after the realization of the outermost sphere Thaumiel, the Qlipha of the infernal medjis, the prince-twins Satan and Moloch, that the initiate holds the key to the alchemical kosmic resurrection, a form of the tantric Kaivalya. With the realization of Thaumiel the adept manifests the powers of what Karlsson with reference to the tantric tradition rightly calls the dark chakra Shunya. His quote of Robert Svoboda on page 139 defines this:

¨In the Shunya state all names and forms become extinct, and all you are aware of is your own individuality; otherwise only the void remains. Everything in the universe is contained in the Shunya state, in unmanifested form; you can no longer perceive it. Although people call the Shunya state the Void, it is not empty, it is full.¨

Shunya is neither existence, nor non-existence, nor a combination, nor a negation of the two. It is the nothingness which is not created, indestructible and the totality of our knowledge. This state or realm of being within Esoteric Voudon is called the Meon, the icy realm of nothingness beyond Chronos-Saturn over which Baron Lundi presides. The same state has been identified by the Hyperborean magicians of the Fraternitas Borealis as the silent, eternal, frozen void beneath the shadow realm of Hel(l). Esoteric Voudonists and Hyperborean shamans have created a whole science of the Meon which Michael Bertiaux has termed Meontology. Its initiates operate from a magical temple directly accessing the Meon which to the Voudon Gnostics is the temple of Baron Lundi-Choronzon with its 16 doors and eleven gates. To the Northern Gnostics this would be the temple-fortress of absolute Nigredo upon the Midnight Mountain.

Engaged in an eternal war against each other, the opposing poles of Thaumiel, Satan and Moloch create a tension which forms a vortex, a black hole that becomes a gateway to another kosmic universe. The adept, who passes through this gateway is purified through the fire of this holy war and is able, if he so wishes, to exit the final limitations of Universe A and enter Universe B in which he becomes the sole creator. Karlsson correctly describes that it is in this universe where the initiate will find the infinite light which was previously experienced as darkness. The Fraternitas Borealis teaches that this is the light of the Sol Niger, the black sun and the darkness that shines. The green ray or light (as well as that of the emerald vision in its most occult interpretation) that some schools of occultism associate with the light of the black sun is explained in its most esoteric sense through the dark blue light of the kosmos filtered through the yellow sphere of the Voudon God of Death, Guedhe Nibbho, who rules the qliphotic dimension.

A magician who has undergone this kosmic resurrection will experience a reversal of polarities within his chakras and hot-points. Usually the energy in activated chakras and occult points rotate clockwise in the form of a sun wheel swastika. After the magister has taken the final step on the Left Hand Path, the swastikas begin to turn counterclockwise. His being is no longer dependent on the light of the golden sun but is forthwith empowered and illumined by the black sun of supreme attainment.
