By David Beth, June 2011 With great regret I have come to the conclusion that my contribution to Black Front Press' recent Crowley anthology
had been badly decided.
The book in itself is a non-political, very interesting contribution to the study of Thelema and Crowley.
However, there are other factors which make this statement necessary. While I am a great defender of the freedom of speech and
thought, no matter how radical and weird an idea may sound to others or to me personally, I would and will never lend my voice
to a cause, publication effort or any other vehicle to promote ideals and ideas which are in extreme opposition to my own.
After being initially approached by BFP to contribute to the recent Crowley anthology I was convinced this to be in no way a
political or ideological venture and that BFP was a non-partial project. I had no reason to think
otherwise, especially also since some respected writers and names had been won for this project.
While all of this holds true in regards to the Crowley book, I had to find out that many platforms on which this book has been promoted
by the publisher include far right propaganda sites which endorse an ideology and policy which is in extreme opposition to my
own ideals. Also, a very recent background check on other writers that have been given room to expound their 'theories' in
BFP' other anthologies revealed intimate connections with far right movements.
I do not believe in ideological
inquisition and/or silencing others, but I will never knowingly promote any project, far less contribute to any such project
which endorses ideas of racial supremacy, segregation and disrespect for other cultures, religions or people. I have myself
lived for most of my life in countries other than the country of my nationality. I consider this one of the greatest
blessings of my life as it afforded me intimate knowledge of other cultures, religions and mentalities - something that
enriched me greatly. I have been a 'foreigner' most of my life and I have been mostly received with respect, interest
and enthusiasm into the countries, societies and cultures I entered into. This is the attitude I will give back to others
and have done so for all of my life as is evidenced in all my writings and actions. I shall stand firm against all attempts
to give room to racial supremacists, racial hatred and totalitarianism, no matter if directly or indirectly.
